Updating the resolutions
Thursday
9:25 pm

At the turn of the year I set in stone some god to honest New Year’s resolutions. It was more challenge to my willpower to see if I actually could pull off some smaller stuff on my way to bigger stuff.
As a reminder here are the couple of resolutions I set down early this ..read more
My Next Great Invention: Spy Contacts
Thursday
8:25 pm

Did you know that terror suspects, mob enforcers and women get spooked when stared at in public? Do you wish you could ogle/keep tabs on/both ogle AND keep tabs on these people?
POOF
Feast your eyes with the new Spy Contacts (not yet in beta)! The idea is that these are one-way see through contact lenses that have a digital image of an iris on the front, and sensors on the back. when your actual eye looks in a direction, the iris projection on the contacts looks in the other direction. It’s like in post production of Episode 1 when Lucas changed which way Jake Lloyd was looking. Only not really.
So now, ..read more

Tron and other great franchises: “Sometimes, dead is better.”
Thursday
10:48 am

I’m about to commit geek blasphemy. Steady the noggins of your Star Trek bobbleheads and hold your sweaty can of Amp down, because the following statement is going to rattle the very foundations of the Internet:
I saw the “TRON” teaser trailer. And I was completely underwhelmed.
Actually, more than completely underwhelmed. I thought it was cheesy. Perfunctory. Uninspired. Wipe the tears from your eyes, my friends, or let them flow and have them wash away the retro-nostalgic blindness which has clouded your eyes.
I loved the original “TRON.” The art direction was never-before-seen, and the idea was fresh. It was a stunning movie.
But it was made during a particular time ..read more
Sony busts out their Move
Wednesday
10:13 pm

The hardcore gaming world mocked Nintendo for their motion controllers, but Mario and friends are getting the last laugh.
Sony debuted their upcoming motion controller — called the PlayStation Move — at the 2010 Games Developer Conference this week.
The big buzzword that Sony is attempting to leverage is “precision,” claiming that it offers a more refined experience over your current console of choice that has motion-sensitive controllers.
The claim is dubious when compared to the accuracy of the Wii MotionPlus (on the surface, both have very similar tracking). Still, once the controller playing field is leveled, the clear advantage could go to Sony, as their console supports a more robust ..read more
GeekGirl loves I don’t get
Wednesday
2:25 pm

Fandom each has its own pieces. For some it is an X-wing. For others it is their replica Sting short sword. Some even like to bask in the glory that is Princess Leia in slave outfit. Now, I can see where these might be guy focused, but even geekgirl can find solace in them.
But for some reason unbeknownst to me geekgirl has some totally different priorities when it comes to geek loves. And most I boggle at. So I come to you for help
Can anyone please explain to me the going gaga by geekgirl over the following?
Aragorn opens some doorsOkay. A couple of doors being pushed open. Do I really ..read more
Review: The Mystery Knight
Tuesday
10:20 pm

Hi all. Remember me? In case you don’t my name is Jason and I write for GeekSix.com. Sorry to have been a bit absent as of late, but such is the life of a dad with a sick kid who leaves town to go to a professional conference.
At least you guys can be proud as I presented at said conference on how to embrace technology to enable academic advisors to be able to advise over distances instead of across a desk. Totally did half of the presentation in my hotel bathroom via Skype.
Anywho, prior to all of that going down I was lucky enough to get my hands on a ..read more
More Firefly inbound: Finally, an answer to Book’s backstory
Tuesday
11:28 am

Those of you (like us) who just can’t leave “Firefly” behind are in for a treat. Two new graphic novel projects are going to hit stores this year.
The biggest of them, story-wise, is a hardcover graphic novel that’s been in the works for three years. “The Shepherd’s Tale” will delve into Book’s mysterious backstory, and will be in stores in November. Although his checkered past was often dangled in front of us during the series and movie’s run, this will be the first time we’ve been presented with a canon telling of how a preacher came to know so much about guns.
A few hints about Book’s past were ..read more
A true tale of Lazer Tag and law enforcement
Monday
11:58 pm

“What’s this hooch here?” the deputy said as he yanked back a blanket in the back seat, revealing a 24-pack of Miller Lite.
We all shifted nervously, the kid-sized Lazer Tag vests bungee corded around our grown-up bellies feeling uncomfortably tight.
The hooch’s presumed owner spoke up. “It’s not mine, officer,” he stammered, attempting to sound plausibly innocent. “My older brother had the car last night, and he must have put that back there.”
“‘Zat so?” the deputy loudly mused with textbook authoritarianism as he looked to his partner. The gravel crunched as he walked back to his patrol car, sidestepping the pile of 10-year old ray guns. “You were just out here ..read more
Scifinal – The Best Place to Get Your Fix of Nerdy Webisodes
Monday
7:14 pm
So I’m a fan of The Guild, I enjoy The Legend of Neil (when I’m not mildly appalled), and man those New Caprica BSG webisodes made me happy; but that being said, I really have a hard time getting motivated to go hunting for new content. But then a little bird (read – Twitter) told me about Scifinal. It’s a web directory of all the independently made science fiction webseries.
Sure, there’s a fair heaping of apartment roommate genre spins, but I kinda love those — especially ones like My Roommate the Cylon.
Or, if you prefer flatmates and zombies, there is Zomblogalypse, which made me giggle Shaun ..read more
