[With apologies to Blain: Geek6 writers are paid in old Aladdin's Castle tokens and those orange circus peanuts, so we likely won't be participating in said auction.]
Independently wealthy? Ready to own one of the more coveted pieces of geek history? Open up your 401(k)s for Action Comics No. 1, going up for online auction this Friday.
The 1938 comic is so famous because it’s the first ever to feature a little character the world would come to know as Superman. The seller of this particular comic bought it 1950 when he was 9 years old, after begging his parents for 35 cents. (I’m looking at you, mom.)
You can hit the auction for yourself at www.comicconnect.com.

I still remember this episode of The New Leave It To Beaver where Beaver’s kids found his old comic book collection that had an X-Men #1 in it, but June Cleaver threw them out. I remember them all looking at the dump for it, but I don’t remember if they found it or sold it or what. Ahhh…random memories.
Wow. “The New Leave It To Beaver…” add that to the cultural zeitgeist of memories I’d forgotten. Sorry, cure for cancer — you’ve just been deleted to make way in my brain for memories of crappy late-80s syndicated drek like “The New Leave It To Beaver,” “Get A Life” and others.
