Robotech=Battlestar or Battlestar=Robotech?

I swear there are literally identical shots on Robotech to Battlestar. Now that might be because honestly how many creative ways can an aircraft carrier in space be filmed, but, the likeness is uncanny. Not only that, but the themes too! All of this has happened before, all of it will happen again.
-They fight an enemy that knows only war, but some decide to live with the humans instead of fighting them.
-When shrunk down to size, they are virtually identical to humans.
-The ship jumps out of danger far away from home with dwindling supplies and-
-Refugees! Robotech had 70,000, Battlestar 50,000…but who’s counting (apparently me)
-Romantic angst!
-The enemy has lost the ability to procreate…or protoculture…or what have you.
-Music plays an important role, either to teach about humanity or reveal cylonship
-Gender and race are rarely mentioned, well, except by Lt. Hunter thinking ladies are just for loving.
-Space fighting, fighting in space!
What am I missing?

Wow, you nailed it, Autumn. Funny — I’d never really made the connection before.
woah. *head explodes* =)
*And Charlotte leaves to go find herself a copy of Robotech*
Not quite that simple, Charlotte; it’s 83 episodes of 1980s cartoon. In some ways, you might actually like the original japanese series it was plucked from: Macross. In that case, there’s an OVA (think miniseries) that goes through the basic plotline in a shorter, more cinematic fashion (with great animation). That’s called, “Macross: Do You Remember Love?”
