Friday Top 5: Marvel characters deserving a movie
Friday
12:26 am
A couple of weeks ago, I whipped up a Friday Top 5 concerning which DC characters should get their own movie. And I got to thinking about the other side of the coin, namely their competition Marvel. And after learning this week that Marvel is developing their very own thinktank of writers to tackle lesser known characters, I think it only fair I give fair and equal time to what Marvel characters I want to see.
Now, if Joe Quesada wants to hire me as a consultant for my list, I will not be opposed. Though the Geek Boss might have something to say about that. So just who needs their very own special movie? Those with planned movies in the next couple of years are disqualified. Yes I am looking at you Thor and Captain America. But I think there is a bigger question, can we throw out Daredevil because of Affleck? I going to blame him for the follow up Elektra.
5) Alpha Flight
Nowadays they are going by the name Omega Flight, but really we all know this lovable Canucks at their original moniker. How can you not want a bunch of Canadian do gooders working to uphold the ideals of Canada? It is fail proof. I would venture to guess that about 95% of comic readers couldn’t even name a member of Alpha Flight. Well let me answer this one for you. Wolverine was once a member of the team. And if his new movie performs decently, why not let another Marvel Canadian product see the light of day.
4) The Starjammers
I quite surprised myself when I thought of the Starjammers. I am going to have to blame Battlestar Galactica for this one. Because right now I am missing me some spaceship. But then again, most the Starjammers crew is alien, something which makes me go boooooo. But the group is led by Christopher Summers. That’s right, the father of our very own Scott Summers, more affectionately known as Cyclops from the X-men. And this other kid named Alex who eventually turns out to be another X-men the movies have not seen yet. But think of it as space pirates. Then again, I might just have Firefly on the brain.
3) Cloak & Dagger
Meet Tyrone and Tandy. Tyrone is a rough and tumble kid from New York. Tandy is the daughter of a supermodel who does not appreciate her enough. He is the darkness, she is the light. Both ran away. They met. And now they are Cloak & Dagger, fighting to clean up the streets from drug dealers and the crime lords. This could easily be a good crime story, not necessarily a superpowered duke it out. It sort of has M. Night Shyamalan feel to it the more I think about it. The duo was always a personal favorite of mine, though I am not sure what they have accomplished in the grand scheme of things in the Marvel universe. Why is it that my number three I tend to almost talk myself out of? Anyone have the number for Hawkeye? I might need a replacement.
2) Moon Knight
Take Batman and Spawn, and then add in some white tights. Bam! You have Moon Knight. And he is one bad moth…shut your mouth! Highly skilled in hand to hand combat and the one who carries out vengeance for Khonshu, the moon god. Not someone you want to cross. But he is highly controlled by Knonshu, with full power coming at night. But outside of the fighting bad ass that he is, the concept of Moon Knight should be enough to get this movie rocking. Well that and some nifty white spandex.
1) Gambit
I don’t care that he is in the new Wolverine movie. Gambit play no second fiddle to no one. Matter of fact, I don’t even know why he is in this Wolverine movie. He has nothing to do with that furry animal at this point in the story. But the suave cajun is made for all kinds of comedy. Plus you always have Rogue and the love story that plays between them. Could you just see Remy on a riverboat, playing poker, only to launch into a supercharged game of 52 Card Pick Up? Add in his sweet bo-staff skills and you can see why he is an easy number one to put on this list.

I vote for the Alpha Flight/Omega Flight! Go Canada!
While I’d love to see a Gambit movie, I’d also like to see Cloak & Dagger remade, too. Dabney Coleman = awesome!
*Sigh* With the continued talk of bringing every comic under the sun to screen, I am feeling my allegiance growing to GeekBot….
…I’d be careful with GeekBot, Amber; have you read Dean Koontz’ “Demon Seed?”
LOL!
Good point. (And as an aside, me loves some Dean Koontz.)
You seem to have left Nextwave off your list. Only the best book to come out in the last decade.
