GI Joe: Resolute=Awesome

I admit it. I need to watch Adult Swim more. I rarely watch it on television, but when I do, I see if I can catch my fill of Robot Chicken. But imagine my surprise when I stumbled across a parts one and two of their new online series GI Joe: Resolute.

Let me just say, oh…my….frakkin’…..gods…..

Adult Swim has been nice enough to preview the first 10 minutes of the series and let me just say this is everything I have ever wanted my GI Joe cartoon to be. Here is just a quick rundown of what I totally spasmed about in the first 10 minutes.

  • The animation style is like a hybrid of the 80s cartoon, anime and Batman Begins. It feels slick and well done. Not any of this overtly CGI crap that animation has become. So if it is CGI, they fooled me.
  • The lasers are gone.
  • The tone is much darker. People die.
  • People are much more than caricatures of their code name.
  • Warren Ellis wrote it.
  • Snake-Eyes kicks ass, much more than he did before, and that is saying something.
  • They threw a bone out to the old theme song.

Sadly there is no PSA thus far.

Adult Swim’s plan is to release parts of the series in about five minute increments leading up to the network premier of the GI Joe: Resolute movie which will complete the story of the online series.

Here take a look at the trailer for it…

And now that you cannot hold your excitement, watch parts one and two right now (no embed code, sorry). Then wait in anticipation for Monday when parts three and four are released.

I would be willing to bet money, this television movie will blow the live action movie out of the water (I will still see it and spasm for that as well).

Looks like they have parts 1 and 2 up on youtube already.

And I’d be willing to wager that the fly over shots of the aircraft carrier are CG to some extent.

Also, I didn’t think they could make Snake-eyes any better. I stand corrected.

Yeah, they are on Youtube, but I am throwing out a bone to Adult Swim. Tomorrow, parts 3 and 4. Nice. But yeah just seeing Snake-Eyes slice…in a much more real fashion, I might of squeed just a little bit.
