Spike offers hope, realism on spinoff

SciFi Wire cornered James Marsters on Monday at a press event promoting Dragonball: Evolution. Marsters was around to talk up his new project, but of course SciFi Wire totally forgot about that and started drilling him about the always rumored Spike spinoff from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
Now Marsters has always contended that he would only put a five to seven year window of reprising the role of the ever loving vampire we all grew to love. With that window closing, Marsters offered up some hope that it could still get done, but was very realistic that the chances of a studio backing the spin-off would be slim.
I think that Buffy has always been swimming upstream. It’s always been fighting uphill. It’s no different now. You would have to really get behind it and sell it, even if Sarah [Michelle Gellar] were the lead. But asking the powers that be to put their money behind a secondary character of that show, there’s just resistance. I think if Sarah wants to come back, I’ll jump on behind her again, but I think that’s the way there would probably be something else.
If there is one thing that rabid Buffy fans can latch on to, to find a glimmer of maybe, that will and can sustain them for a couple of months. As it stands a rumored Giles spinoff in the UK is pretty much dead. At least we can watch him play a medieval king on Merlin. But sadly the Buffyverse may be taking a much longer dirtnap than most fans want. One day it may return, but at this point, it is looking like a long shot. But every just remember. For every Angel there is to Buffy, the is a Battlestar Galactica 1980 to Battlestar Galactica.
And personally, I have always held out hope that if there was a spinoff, that it would be based on Faith and how she got along after Sunnydale turned into a giant nothing. Hey who knows? With Dollhouse on a very big bubble, both Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku may be available very soon. Any takers?

Wait…this isn't Sunnydale. I command you to return me at once!

Hmmmm…. Given how lacking in immortality Christopher Lambert was in “Highlander: Endgame” (and how sad was I about that, because Lambert was smoking hot in the first movie, darnit), I question the feasibility of Spike’s return as an immortal on the TV screen.
And please don’t bring back Buffy, too, because that whole Buffy/Spike storyline sucked eema. I liked Spike pre-emasculation, personally.
Amber — seriously, darlin’: Go to en.gravatar.com and make yourself a little Claudia Black avatar or something. The little shadow person icon isn’t becoming of you. : )
Yeah you really should Amber, look at me… though maybe a creepy little gnome won’t work for you…
And I never watched Buffy…
I’ve bonded with my faceless shadow person icon. We are one.
But, if you insist….
Yay!
Pictures are like words… but not…

Hey look, Ma! I have Multiple Personality Disorder.
Am I a LEGO? Am I a vampire? Some days it’s too close to call.
And now back on topic:
Seriously? That’s James Marsters in that “Merlin” pic?
Wow….
I mean, I see it, but…
Wow.
I can see it coming now: the day that I decide that James Marsters, too, has become too old to drool over.
All I know is that after his stint in Smallville, Marsters is looking a little ragged around the edges.
