Star Trek: The Next Series?

SciFi Wire is up with an interview with Bryan Fuller, creator of Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, where he talks about his vision for a possible new Star Trek series. Of course this is only in his head, he is not actually doing it. Read the entire interview at SciFi Wire.

Given the upcoming Star Trek movie reboot, have you discussed your ideas with director J.J. Abrams?

Fuller: Not in any official capacity. I’ve had interactions with him, and he’s a really nice guy. I would love to work with him in any capacity, because I’m a big fan of his work. I think they are concentrating on the feature right now, but if a television franchise came to fruition, I’m sure J.J. would be involved in some capacity, and I’d love to be involved as well. It’s not like “Me! Me! I want to do my idea!” I’d love to do what Ron Moore did with Battlestar Galactica, which is redefine an existing franchise, knock down certain barriers of perception and make it accessible to a broader audience.

Given Fuller’s penchant for creating critically acclaimed, but low rated series, perhaps he just needs the big name of Star Trek to help him out. You would be guaranteed one thing at least, it should be an original take if he is ever handed the keys to a new television series.

All I know is that this ruins my vision forStar Trek: Academy which would essentially be the love child of the threesome Star Trek, Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C. You know, sexy Starfleet Academy cadets with all the crazy teen angst and sleeping with superiors. Damn it!
