I am going to have to give YouTube props. They ran with the notion of having a user submission contest to gather a complete symphony, dubbed YouTube Symphony. After the submission were dwindle, those selected were brought to Carnegie Hall last night to play together.

Whether parlor trick to generate site hits, or a concerted effort to bring the world of classical music to the younger generation, I have to say well done. Anything that gets people energized to contribute to the arts is alright by me, even if they may have ulterior motives. Below, take a look at their concert.

And listening with the just the ear, I have to tell the musicians involved, well done. And keep it going.

This makes me smile and think of my friend Bennett. I met him when he was 19 and almost didn’t believe him when he said his favorite type of music is classical. He’s the biggest hippie I know. He’s currently pursuing his dream of being a symphony orchestra conductor.

Very cool!

I’ve loved classical music since I was a toddler. I came very close to choosing to major in music and pursue a career as clarinetist. I played from third grade all the way through college.

However much I’d like to listen to the entire thing… I just don’t have that time, but from what I heard it was very well done.

You do have that much time. You just have to find it. However I do want to find the version with all the intros and features taken out. Take me to the music now!

As a bonus, my local symphony is bring in Play! in like November. Play! takes pieces from video games and performs them. I am a sucker for that. Last season they brought in Video Games Live which was sweet as well.
