Daybreakers trailer: Another (great) twist on the vampire deluge

Have you seen the trailer for “Daybreakers” yet? The movie posits a very fantastic near future in which most of the world has been ‘turned,’ and only a handful of humans remain.

As you can guess, that makes food a little bit of a problem. Humans are hunted and rounded up for blood

This bizarre twist has a “mirror universe” vibe to it — America is still a nation, there are still organized police forces and government — they’re just all vampire-run. Enter vampire Ethan Hawke and human rebellion leader Willem Dafoe, and a plot to rebuild the human race, and something something something…

…to be honest, the movie looks fantastic. It feels like a blend of “True Blood” and “Minority Report.” Check out the trailer, and let us know what you think!

Looks pretty good. And it has the Green Goblin- I mean, Willem Dafoe!

That’s odd — and here I always thought of Willem Dafoe as “Hateful Guard at Maryland Training School for Boys” in 1990’s “Crybaby.”

Seriously: the first thing you thought of wasn’t “Shadow of the Vampire”?

Granted, I try not to think on the “Spiderman” movies at all. But the vampire movie came to mind first, followed by a few others that I tend to associate with Dafoe.

…none of which are “Crybaby”–though I confess that’s stuck in my head now….

As for the movie, was that Sam Neill?

I’m so there for that alone. (OK, so I totally have a thing for the vamps, too, but still….)

I think it was Ethan Hawke.

I was talking about the vamp at the beginning (but I imagine you knew that >;) ).

Ethan Hawke I am not a fan of (despite my love of “Gattaca”), but I will see it, anyway.
