The best 10 RPG t-shirts

As I was getting dressed this morning, I realized my wardrobe is in a funk. I have a closet full of shirts and ties, and a dresser full of largely plain T-shirts. “Where’s the ironic and hip wardrobe to match my scathing wit and nerdiness?” I wondered. So I fired up the ol’ 28.8 and logged onto Prodigy for a trip through cyberspace to go virtual window shopping.

Just for fun, I decided to narrow my search to only role-playing-game attire. Here are the 10 greatest pen-and-paper gaming geek shirts I ran across. (Click the titles to visit the respective t-shirts’ pages.)

Oh, and hint: Don’t search for role-playing attire with your safesearch off. Or do. On second thought, do.

Update: Honorable mentions

Thanks to feedback from Twitter and in the comments section, here are a couple I missed:

10. Currently OOC

Subtle. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher on the list is that you’d have to constantly explain what it means to 97 percent of the general population every time you put it on.

9. +3 Apron of Fire Protection

OK, so it’s not really a shirt, but I guess you could wear it as one if you wanted to suffer -4 to charisma.

8. +5 T-Shirt of protection

Not only does this shirt protect you against magic, it also protects you against getting laid and gives a +2 to wedgies.

7. I Roll 20s

The forward-thinking duo at Penny Arcade have been cranking out geek apparel before the universe realized it was a great way to make a buck. There have been more clever shirts since this one, but few with as good a visual sensibility.

6. Rogues Do It From Behind

yhst-34640480252896_2052_9895109

While I’m uncertain as to the hidden meaning of this Penny Arcade shirt, others tell me it is quite innuendous. And, yes, I just declared that a word.

5. Don’t Make Me Kill You…

Perfect for the antisocial gamer (there are plenty out there, and I think I’ve played with most of them), this shirt does a perfect job of warding off normals who may try to approach unawares.

4. Choose Your Weapon

This is a great shirt — tasteful while still deliciously nerdy. Although, I can’t tell which I like better — the shirt itself or the photo the site used.

3. Level 1 Baby

Seeing this outfit almost makes me want to have another kid, just so I could outfit him or her in all of this clever gamer attire. And then I hard look at life and snap out of it.

2. Professional Role Player

I’ve seen a few of these shirts wandering the dank and dorky corners of the Internet, but this one, sporting the tacky wizard silhouette, is my favorite.

1. Yes, They’re Naturals.

If I have to tell you why this shirt is awesome, then you’re at the wrong site.

Do you have any that I missed? Which is your favorite? I’m going to do some general great geek T-shirts tomorrow, just so you non-RPG folks will quit whining.

As far as RPG related, I’ve always liked these two.

And there are several dozen non-gaming shirts I enjoy. Top 3 that I can still find for sale would be these.

Which is not to say that I don’t own a “Nice Tribbles” baby tee somewhat akin to #1 above….

David’s right — I wish I had seen this one — would have made my top 10 easily….

My favorite RPG t-shirt was a tie-dye toddler t-shirt that said “Wandering Monster” on it. Truer words were never spoke…

I love good RPG clichés — we have Munchkin to thank for bringing those all to the forefront. : )

The “Currently OOC” and “Don’t Make Me Kill You…” ones are my favorite, and if I had money I would almost definitely buy them…

Well, if it isn’t Nick Burns. Ain’t seen you around much lately. Did Canada have an Internet outage for the past month?

No, it’s just that school’s ending soon, and they’re just piling on the work.

See, I have the witty tshirts. I need more. I am always on the look out…just not on the internet. I need to look harder. Stay ahead of the curve. Good thing I am already married to a woman who does not hold my geekness against me. My kid however….thankfully cannot speak yet.

And upon going shopping, ran across http://shop.cafepress.com/design/16376805
While I would not wear it myself, I would like to see it worn vs who could pull it off.
