Sometimes my sister April gets bored at work. On those days she searches Etsy.com and IM’s me the best of her finds. I think she was in a crafty mood as she sent me a listing for Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and pirate amigurumi patterns. What are “amigurumi” you ask? Well, I asked myself the same thing. Here’s what the encyclopedia had to say:
The Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. Amigurumi are typically cute animals (such as bears, rabbits, cats, dogs, etc.), but can include inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features. Amigurumi can be either knitted or crocheted. The pervading aesthetic of amigurumi is cuteness. To this end, typical amigurumi animals have an over-sized spherical head on a cylindrical body with undersized extremities.
Check out Geek Central Station on Etsy for more information about their patterns.

Those are so cute. Too bad I can’t crochet worth a darn. =(
I wish I could knit. I would totally get the Admiral Ackbar pattern.
The Admiral Ackbar guy is the sweetest. My emotions can’t repel cuteness of that magnitude!
Funny: mine can. >;) I don’t have the kitschy knits gene.
We all have something, though. I may not be into knickknacks, but I am sporting the Stargate drink coasters, so….
See, I think I’d like to make something like this but then would have no idea what to do with them afterwards. I feel that way about scrapbooking. I actually like the act of scrapbooking, but typically hate it once I put the pictures and text in. Mainly because I look at it and say, “What the frak am I going to do with this?”
I prefer my crafts to have a purpose. Right now, tatting lace for the blessing dress for my sister’s unborn little girl. It’s fulfilling all of my craft needs.
I totally get that, Christy. That’s the main reason I’m not into knickknacks: What purpose do they serve? They just sit there taking up space and cluttering your home. I don’t really get it.
That’s also why I’m not a collector. I did the collecting thing with Farscape: I went bonkers with it. And then I sat back and thought, Now what do I do with all of this stuff? It has no functional purpose.
