Test your old-school transformers I.Q.

A few months back, I found a great G1 Transformers cartoon screen grab and made a little competition to see who could name them all. But, after I saw this auction for some original G1 comic book art, I figured I’d up the ante.

You see, the cartoon had more popular appeal than the comic, whose original art was often less consistent and recognizable given the artist rotation. In that vein, here’s a screen shot of the art up for auction — click to make it bigger — how many can you name? (I think I got all of them.)

Ironhide, Huffer, Sunstreaker, Skids, Sideswipe, Bumblebee, Prowl, Bluestreak (Now known as Silverstreak, because he’s not at all blue), Mirage, Optimus, Brawn, Jazz, Hound, Ratchet, Windcharger (He was a bit tough to figure out. His head is shapped differently, but his face is right), Wheeljack, and Trailbreaker.

I love Frank Springer’s art. Wish I could afford to buy that page.

After some consideration, i have decided that the ‘Bot I thought was Windcharger, is, in fact, gears. His head is COMPLETELY the wrong shape, but the face and chest are similar to his toy’s.

See, I thought it was Windcharger, too — but he doesn’t have that polygonal box for a head. So, yeah, I might buy Gears. Didn’t think of that.

And, yeah, at nearly $700, it’s out of my pay grade.

After I posted that, I looked on Gear’s TF Wiki page, and found this image: http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/0/07/Gearsg1firstappearance.jpg

The one on the left is taken from the colored version of that page!
