The Star Wars Shop…Aberdeen, WA!

I’ve been MIA at the GeekSix office of late as I’ve been off vacationing the snot out of the last bits of summer.  My family rented a beach house in Moclips, WA last week and we drove past The Star Wars Shop in Aberdeen.  I kind of had to stop.  It’s crammed full of Star Wars odds and ends.  I had a great time wandering through the overflowing aisles.  And purchased The Star Wars Question and Answer Book about Space.  Here’s a pictorial highlight of my ..read more

‘Arrested’ producers are getting off by being withholding

I suppose there’s a little bit of good news in this, with Arnett and Hurwitz teaming up for a new show.  But enough already, just make the movie!  Michael Cera will always

look 12 but eventually Maeby is going to be a hot 25 year old and it won’t make sense any more.  It ain’t easy being brown OR a fan of this ..read more

Spidey meet Mickey

Jason
Monday

In this week’s ugg news…

Disney is buying Marvel for a whooping $4 billion. That means we get to see the Fantastic Four right up against the Jonas Brothers. Spidey and Iron Man palling around with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

All I know is that if Disney does anything to affect the comic entertainment side of Marvel, you will be seeing one pissed off Jason. The best thing they can do is come in and clean up the comic production schedule. Who really needs Wolverine on four different teams and three individual comics. Maybe they will make they cease with the four issues of Amazing Spider-man a month.

There is still some ..read more

You voted, and I’m a man of my word. A few observations, as a one-day convert to muttonchops.

  • People look at you differently when they can’t tell if you’re a civil war re-enactor or confederate badass. I took my kids to the zoo, and got several sidelong glances from moms. And, I’m not sure, but I’m pretty positive a giraffe snickered.
  • A biker with one of those giant, footlong goatees gave me a nod when I was at McDonalds yesterday, sensing a kindred spirit.
  • So, here are before and after shots, and a 1-minute horribly produced video, the likes of which make the founders of the Internet cry for the bandwidth it ..read more

    Another essential

A few months ago I started The Essentials series with a write-up of Deus Ex.  Well now we move on to a little unicorn that has evade me for a number of years as it has not been the least bit easy to find.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a LucasArts gem that somehow has gotten glossed over in favor of the Monkey Islands and the Day of the Tentacles when adventure games are brought up.  It probably has something to do with the availability and the fact that Monkey Island was made into a lengthy franchise, but there are few people who will admit that anything ..read more

    Help a Browncoat’s children

Just saw this over at Whedonesque. Kristen Belair (New England Browncoats co-founder) was traveling with her kids on I-40. She pulled off the road to change a flat tire when the blade of a bulldozer on the back of a truck struck and killed her while her two children were in the car.

She had no life insurance; a fund is being set up for her daughters.

I’m shaving my beard, and you’re going to help

I’ve had facial hair most of my adult life. Sometimes just a goatee, sometimes a full-on lumberjack beard, and sometimes the trimmed-beard-but-not-a-chinstrap I currently sport.

Blame my Lebanese heritage and curly facial hair, which tries to corkscrew back into whence it came when it’s in stubble mode, causing unseemly ingrown hairs.

But I’m thinking it’s time to come clean. And because I can’t do anything alone, let’s make this a participatory event.

The time has come for you to choose. Each choice will lead me down an interactive path to a whisker-free face. But beware — a false move means certain humiliation!

For each successful round of polling, I’ll wear that style for an undetermined ..read more

To Boldly Go Where We All Are

I was doing laundry today when I thought randomly (as my thoughts often go) if Picard was in the real world, what would he do?  Then this happened:

Picard would work as a director of an NGO, often going to explore the projects his company helps fund.  He would also have a small winery he hopes to retire to someday.  He runs a tight ship, so to speak, but with one odd quirk of always having his therapist at board meetings.  Oh, and there was that one time he made out with a consultant in the vents.

Riker is living his dream life with his wife Troi.  He runs a successful jazz ..read more

If you died, what file(s) on your computer would most embarrass you?

I’ve grown to love asking Twitter all sorts of questions. I find the answers — which come from a cross section of humanity — to be refreshing and original.

You know that fear that you’ll someday die, and have dirty underwear on? Wait — you mean I’m the only one who worries about that? In any case, stay with me. I decided to see what little secrets people had on their computers that, if they were to die unexpectedly, that they were afraid the authorities would find. The highlights are below:

I originally posted about the fan made replica of the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1 here last week. Thanks to all the awesome GeekSix readers, they lead me to Wess “Mavric” Roberts, owner and creator of the awesome vehicle and CEO of the group “The Ghostbusters of Salt Lake”  (here are links to their myspace and facebook pages). I conducted an interview via email (I suck at dictation over the phone) with Wess about his group, the awesome charity work they do, and everything else Ghostbuster ..read more
