Misdirected Geek Anthems

If I were you, I'd be listening to this as well.

I suppose I am on a bit of music kick lately. And when it comes to my iTunes, I tend to be a bit OCD with regard to having entries complete and it being organized.

So I was going through my CD collection that tends to run in my car and was making some quick track listings. My mixes tend to have some kind of theme, even though I don’t make them consciously going into it for the most part.

One of those CDs seemed to include a lot of songs that surrounded being a geek, geektastical things, geek life and geek aspirations. On the surface they seem like they may be an anthem, but in the end when lyrics are considered, they are just a bit misdirected in an effort to trumpet the benefits of geekdom.

So here a couple of the more recent entries, and for your enjoyment, lovely music videos. Perhaps its best if you just listen to the songs, not so much watching the video….

Geeks Get The Girl – American Hi-Fi
Take ‘em home for real! This song is so inspiring, tribute videos abound. Including some anime mashups and a tribute to Clark and Lois of Smallville.

Flavor of the Weak – American Hi-Fi
Another one from American Hi-Fi. The connection of this song is a bit thin, with it mainly coming with them singing about Nintendo. But when it inspires something like this, how can it not be included. My favorite part? The dude failing to make the shortcut jump on MarioKart64.

Girl All The Bad Guys Want – Bowling for Soup
Bowling for Soup, straight out of Denton, TX. And, probably the bannermen for all geeks. Their music is usually a tribute to the rough times they had growing up on the less popular side of things throughout their life. And bonus for us as it usually provides some great music.

Stacy’s Mom – Fountains of Wayne
To be honest, I don’t know if any of my friends’ moms were the MILF. Most of the time it was the daughters who I was pining after so I didn’t have time to pay attention to those older people. And the video pays fine tribute to our favorite moment from Judge Reinhold ever.

Party Like A Rockstar – The JT Experience
In the end, we all want this to be an anthem for life no? Anyone else with me on this? Anyone?

But I suppose all of the above are better than this…

Scotty Doesn’t Know – Lustra

Well that was fun. Not terribly poignant or anything. Perhaps later on I will really dive in an actually write about great geek songs.
