Just got back in tonight (well it was last night before I passed out and finished this morning). From where you ask? Well judging by the glitter in my hair some may claim the strip club down the street from the offices. But that was not it. That glitter came from a sailor hat some sailor chick lent me.
No, tonight was Salt Lake City’s Can’t Stop the Serenity event. Four hours of Whedony fun, Browncoats, raffles, auctions, food, beer and the Big Damn Movie itself, Serenity.
And as the movie made its way to the inevitable end, I sat there listening to my fellow Browncoats around me, cheer, jeer and sob ..read more

As most of you know, when I’m not blogging about Voltron and Firefly, I’m a journalist in an undisclosed location.
As you may not know, journalists these days can be a rather dour lot. So, when I wore my Halloween costume to the morning news meeting, most of the other editors were not amused.
Until the kindergartners came by on a newsroom tour, peering through the glass windows.
“Do it,” our government editor whispered. “Turn around.”
Bowing to peer pressure, I slowly turned around and revealed my costume through the glass to the kids.
There were shrieks. Screams. One little girl ran to her mother, and buried her head deep within the folds of her dress. ..read more

I love it when geeks take matters into their own hands and then share with their fellow geeks via the internets. The combined geeks at pinkraygun.com have done just that by sharing their geeky pumpkin carving templates. Here’s a few of my ..read more
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say SyFy Original Movie? Yep, that is what I thought.
And now that you have finished with the groan, I wanted to pass along a preview of SyFy’s newest original movie, Alice, which reimagines the age old tale of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Now I have to say that while most SyFy fare is cringe-worthy, they did a bang up job on the reimagining of The Wizard Oz in Tin Man. So before saying you would rather scrub out your eyes with Abe Vigoda’s toupee and vinegar, give the preview a once over.
AliceOn the upcoming Syfy Original Movie, Alice, ..read more

I loved the 80s, and have really dug the 20-aughts so far, but the 90s were mirrored the puberty I was going through at the time: necessary, but awkward and annoying. I never quite got the hang of the 90s, although I made it through the decade remarkably unscathed, and with virtually no wedgies to show for it.
I spent some time this week reflecting on the decade, but couldn’t come up with enough good things to make a good Internet list. That said, I was able to come up with plenty of things that I hate. So, in the spirit of decadism, here are 9 things I hate about the ..read more

NASA is on a roll. This (Wednesday) afternoon the first test Ares I-X rocket was launched successfully, a big step toward returning to the Moon and a boost to the controversial Constellation program. This comes just a few weeks after the water-in-dust crash tests on the Moon itself. In the face of budget cuts and a lot of “let’s focus on Earth’s problems rather than spaceships” sentiment spawned from the recession, it’s nice to see the program can still deliver the goods. This is early on in Constellation, but success is success, which will only help get money once the economy wanders back into NotEffedVille.

In case you missed Castle last night, like me, the full episode is on Hulu. I haven’t watched the full episode yet, but fortunately, we get to see Nathan Fillion try out his Mal costume at the very beginning of the episode. This scene takes place before the one that I posted a clip of last week. The musical cues are great. ..read more

Growing up I always enjoyed gaming. Board games, role playing games, video games, pc games, loved them all and spent way to much time playing them all.
But the one area that I never caught on with was the card based games. Never played Magic: The Gathering (although I do have a box of first series cards somewhere). I was way to old for the likes of Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! when they started to pop up.
Then came a little game called Munchkin. Technically I started with Super Munchkin and then moved on to Munchkin, but Munchkin none the less. And with that I started to have a bit more ..read more
