Since three out of six of us have moved recently, I got to thinking about easier, geekier ways to get things done. Friends always help me move… and I consider my friends to be pretty darn super. But what if the super friends and other various superheroes helped the geeksixers move? What would happen then?
The Hulk – awesome at first, just get him good and angry but NO NOT MY EWOK COOKIE JAR! NO HULK SMASH NO!
Superman – Another great one at first, there was a little trouble with my box of kryptonite but just as we compromised on that Louis Lane shows up and the next thing you know ..read more

We hope that, in whatever dimension you’re occupying, in whatever quantum state this universe has seen fit to shuffle you off to, that you’re eating big meals with close friends, and finding happiness and relaxation holding down whatever couch happens to be close by.
Have a great Thanksgiving, and we’ll see you after the ..read more

You all know about my fascination with social media — Twitter in particular. There’s something about the low threshold of access that allows us to get an aggregate peek at humanity.
People who post to a blog feel the need to have a point — Twitter removes that barrier. When you pull back and let the entirety of humanity wash over you, it paints a fascinating picture. In fact, I think this brings us closer than ever to realizing Asimov’s fictional concept of Psychohistory — being able to predict humanity’s actions through the course of aggregate mathematics.
But enough armchair psychology.
If you use Twitter, you know all about Follow Friday — the ..read more

Today I got an iPhone so I can listen to a football game on Saturday. But that was just the trigger. I’ve been meaning to get one for a while, with the sole reason
because I’m an app slut. When I look at other people’s iPhones and they have fewer than four pages of apps they are no longer human to me. They are gutter trash. A bipedal squalor not fit to bask in the glow of the sun.
Now that I have one for myself, I have a quest. And you can help. I want to find and install the most useless app in existence. Not just “oh cool, now I ..read more

Need a Christmas present for that special geek? Feeling like you’ve been nice enough to treat yourself this year? Enter our contest to win an “Star Trek: The Art of the Film” books from Titan Books!
We’ve leafed through this book, and we’d love to keep it for our very own. The hardcover book measures in at more than 160 pages, and its weight could flatten any number of endangered woodland creatures. The art book is full of delectable concept paintings that didn’t see the light of day, production diaries, interviews and omitted scenes. It’s must-have eye candy for any Trek geek or sci-fi fan.
I want it! What do

Ever since my daughter was born, there’s been a talk I’ve dreaded having.
The “birds & the bees,” you ask? Psh. Not a problem in today’s modern life — besides, I’m still a few years away from that talk. I have a deeper, tougher conversation that, up until recently, I’ve been nervous about for seven years:
Daddy plays role playing games.
You see, when I was growing up, my family was very loving, but anything dealing with the craft of imagination, science fiction or stereotypically nerdy past-times was met with silence or misunderstanding at best.
When we moved to another town, I all but buried my geekly desires deep within myself in an effort ..read more

The holidays are coming up quick (Christmas and a birthday), and along with that comes the inevitable “you’re so hard to buy things for — what do you want?” line of questions.
The honest truth: I have no idea. But I’d love something fun that doesn’t breathe or make anyone take out a bank loan. That leaves out puppies and HDTVs, so games seem like a logical suggestion to parents and aunts.
But I’m not as into gaming as I used to be, so I have no idea what to ask for. I need your help.
I’m going to list out my video game caveats below in hopes you folks can help me ..read more

When someone tells me they just got back from a fabulous vacation abroad I don’t start off with “Tell me about what you saw.” I begin with “What airline did you fly?”
If you can read the above without your eyes rolling out of your head, then the following links are for you:
1. Seat Guru
On multiple occasions I’ve annoyed travel partners by insisting (for instance) that we take the 2 p.m. flight instead of the noon flight because Delta’s 757-200s only
have power ports in the first ten rows as opposed to the 737-800s which have them throughout the plane. But who wants their laptop to die midflight? Also, especially for ..read more

First off, a word of advice: Never send me a photo, unless it’s the kind that disintegrates within mere moments upon receipt. Amber sent this photo in regards to a geeky T-shirt entry recently filed by Autumn, but I decided to widen the scope a bit.
Since Geek6’s inception way back in 2009, traffic has been steadily increasing — a fact which makes us feel equal parts humbled, entitled and thirsty (I don’t know why — it just does).
But one person has been with us since the beginning — at one point accounting for no less than 10 percent of Geek6’s startup traffic alone.
Amber has been our ..read more

What’s a geek girl to do when her best friend rents out an entire theater for New Moon? Well fly to Utah to watch it of course! Okay, so it may not have been the only reason for me to be in town, but I was quite happy to take advantage of it. I was able to concentrate in spite of the screaming teenage girls to discover that New Moon was far better than Twilight and here are 6 reasons why.
Every character in the book is more likeable in New Moon than Twilight and that translates to the screen. Okay, admittedly New Moon is my favorite of the books. ..read more
