Star Trek sneakers: Boldly going on foot

Yes I’m a 31-year-old wearing Star Trek themed shoes and I think they are awesome. They are probably the geekiest clothing accessory I have owned since my magnetic He-Man belt when I was 6. Yes, I have a closet full of geek themed t-shirts, but that’s different. Today the average joe or jane can get away with wearing a geek shirt. Hell, it’s what keeps Hot Topic in business besides the goth stuff. But shoes, that’s different.

The Airwalk Star Trek shoes designed by James Staple and put out by Payless have been out since the DVD release of the movie in November but the lack of needing new shoes and the giant sucking sound coming from my wallet because of Christmas gave me reason not to get them yet. I rectified that situation this past weekend when my wife and I went to a local Payless store to get a pair. Here’s the rundown:

Boldly going in blue
Despite being out for a while, I was fortunate enough to find a pair of blue ones in my size (10). They also had red ones, but since Bones is my favorite character, I went with blue (it’s also my favorite color). Yellow ones apparently exist, but only as online exclusives — I have yet to see them though.

Nurse Chapel's going to totally dig me in these…
I’m a doctor, not a shoe salesman.
They are very comfy. The souls are coushioned very well and I’ve been able to break them in much faster than previous shoes. The inside is very well padded and nothing rubs against the back of my heel. Something that plaques me quite often with shoes.
Are they Starfleet regulated footwear?
They come with a neat little plastic Delta symbol on the front. My fear is that it could get broken or scratched if these shoes were to be involved with a rough activity but given my inactivity, this shouldnt pose a problem.

No, you can't talk on it. This isn't freakin' Next Gen.
The design on the tongue is well done. The Air Walk Symbol and the Star Trek Delta look good next to one another. Oh and there’s a little Easter Egg on it too — a star date pertaining to the release date of the movie.

Put the shoes together and look on the inside and you spell Star Trek! No reason to get your Left and Right feet mixed up now!

The embroidered Delta is a nice touch and reflects when the light hits it. Overall a very well designed shoe.

Lens flares are not included.
They’re not as slick or over the top as the recent Star Wars shoes from Adiadas and that suits me just fine. I like that unless you really looked at it, you probably wouldnt know it was a Star Trek shoe. Ok, the big plastic delta is kinda of a give away, but the average person probably wouldn’t think twice.
Are you out of your Vulcan mind?!
The only bad thing I see with the shoes is that they’re only available in mens sizes, which baffles me because there are plenty of female Trek fans out there like my wife who would love a pair. She was very disappointed to say the least.
They retail for $49.99, but mine were on sale for $39.99 and Payless has a BOGO sale going on till Feb. 13. A really good price for themed shoes, or any shoes in my opinion. I’ve always been a tight wad when it comes top shoes. I hate paying more than $50 for a pair. Last time I checked, Payless online didn’t have any left in stock. If you can’t find any at your local store, you might also try contacting the Reed Space store in New York to hook you up with a pair.

Well, ya know: they already have Star Trek shoes for women. They’re called flat black boots as per Uhura and her mini dress. >;)
How do you wash these suckers with that symbol on there? I think you’re right: inactivity is a must.
Ooo! I want a pair of those!
Amber: the delta shield is just laced through the back so it’s removable, you just gotta unlace the whole damn shoe to do it.
Ah, I wondered. Well, good. It would be a pain, but at least it’s possible.
They look cool!
I want a pair! I think I’d prefer to wear them without the little plastic charm, though.
It takes a real man to sport that charm. It says, “I’m not even trying to hide it: I’m a geek.”
Damn skippy! ;-D
Message for Valerie Lewis: I’d be happy to by you a pair of Star Trek geeky boots, but you’re still the most gorgeous geek I’ve never met. As for that other watch, I’m afraid I must admit I envy Mike’s great fortune in being with you to want to buy him a watch/ You call him your boyftiend, I can never be anyone’s boyfriend, I’m not just a senior citizen, I’m a man, though not a Human. I’m from elsewhere, just here Earthside on an unplanned extented visit. You’re the most beautiful, most Venus-like redhead I’ve seen on this planet’s cyber-sex world. It’s not quite like meeting in the cherished flesh Valerie, but you can’t blame an old Viking for dreaming, you look just like the Valkyrie I await since eternity to carry me from the field of battle to Valhalla, still alive for once, so I can rock her world before I go back to these city streets of Ragnarok and berserker.
hi, i read your post and i think that here you give nice and good information about Star Trek shoes and i think that shoes are good in wear and also looking trendy any stylish. I am sure that i want that and try at least one time.
Those look so cool.
You know Blain your wife can still have a pair. Just subtract two sizes from her regular woman’s shoe size and that is her size in men’s shoes.
*balks at the very idea of wearing men’s shoes*
That ranks up there with wearing other people’s bowling shoes to my mind. (OK, it isn’t quite THAT egregious.) But I imagine it would work at that. Not that I can imagine where one might find these shoes at this point in time….
“They are probably the geekiest clothing accessory I have owned since my magnetic He-Man belt when I was 6. ”
When you’re six, that’s not geeky. Only when you’re an adult and sporting the quote-unquote Ultimate Belt do you have to worry about geekiness.
In which payless did u got them i have been trying to find a pair but they aren’t online anymore
