My Day As A Guild Extra

Autumn
Tuesday
9:53 pm

A few months back I was taking a break at work when I saw a twitter from the guild asking for volunteers to be extras for the 4th Season.  I believe I twittered back something along the lines of “heck yeah!”  Anyways, a week or two later I was sitting in a restaurant before dawn with Codex, Fawkes and Vork, Zaboo, and Zaboo’s mom, who instinctively I felt like I should behave around her, like visiting a high school friend’s house and meeting their parents.  I have an active imagination and if someone shoots lighting on tv I give them wide berth in real life.

After the shoot Felicia came to our table ..read more

Geeky Clean!

Autumn
Monday
6:47 pm

There are exciting things going on at my favorite soap website (and yes, I do have a favorite soap website–how can I not love a girl who has made it her mission to eradicate that 3rd-day-in-the-convention-hall funk using the positive reinforcement of RPG dice?)  Geeky Clean has made Cthulhu soap.  I know, the horror, right?

But just when you thought your were going to go insane from the awesome, she also has new Eye of Sauron soap.  If that doesn’t make me excited and quest filled every time I hop in the shower I’m not sure what will.

I had a virtual sit down with Geeky Cleans proprietor to talk about her ..read more

How Geeks Name Their Pets

Autumn
Monday
7:33 pm

It’s no surprise that the geeks of the world name their pets geeky names.  That is, after all, one of the biggest reasons of getting a pet, besides, you know, companionship, stress relief, love of fluffy things.

I could blame my family.  Maybe I have a chip on my shoulder cause my mom let my sister name me after her friend’s dog (I don’t, I think it’s awesome, so whatever a reverse chip on the should is).

We named our Cocker Spaniel Lady.  My brother had a cockatiel named Gumby.  I had hamsters named Buffy and Xander.  And then there was my rat named after an actress ..read more

Autumn
Monday

My buddy Verona and I have recently bonded via facebook messages by sending bits of the X-Men Animated Series theme back and forth to each other.  These messages mostly consist of me going

So, here is my random summer list of favorite bouncing up n down in your seat get ready for the awesome tv themes.

There’s just so much awesome here.  Cause there’s all the good guys, and ooo they’re powerful, but then there are bad guys too and they’re ALSO powerful and ..read more

New SciFinal Trailer Out

Autumn
Tuesday
8:11 pm

The fine folks over at SciFinal have put out a new trailer compiling some of the (over 100) shows they have on their site.  I think I officially am watching more internet shows than tv shows, and since it’s the dog days of summer I recommend you go check out their cool ..read more

Jane Austen Violence

Autumn
Monday
6:30 pm

So I’m finally reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and, as on the nose as that title sounds, it should really be called Pride and Prejudice and Zombie and Kung Fu, because Lizzie, in this version of the classic tale, has been trained in the orient.  Having expected blunderbuss’ and cannons and having received katanas and ninjas, I must say it’s taking me out of the story more than the zombies are, simply because I was completely not expecting that.

It has, however, totally put me in the mood to watch the 6 hour version the BBC made forevs ago.  Other things that put me in the mood to watch Jane Austen ..read more

GeekSix Guest Post – Brewing Leveling Guide

Autumn
Wednesday
6:30 pm

Editor’s note – This is a guest post written by my friend and twitter buddy Jim Brooks aka @nerdsherpa.  He followed me after @thinkgeekretweeted something I said and we’ve been BFF’s ever since.  He decided to write about a slightly different geekery than we usually talk about here, enjoy!

I recently sat down for lunch with my friend Erik (@topfermented) to talk about his Kickstarter project, Mystery Brewing Company. I mentioned how all of the friends I know who are into home brewing have a relatively high degree of geekitude in common. Obviously, there’s a lot of science and chemistry involved, so there’s that appeal to geeks. ..read more

Christy’s Twitter Crash Course

Autumn
Monday
10:32 pm

Since our darling friend and GeekSix co-blogger has decided to join the ranks of twitter (maybe I dis-invited her from future birthday parties, the details were fuzzy), I wanted to give her a few pointers that I’ve learned in my tenure there.

hashtags or # are used when you want to say more, but are trying to conserve space, so #mashallthewordsuptogether

if @thinkgeek, @wilw or @feliciaday RT (which means retweet, yeah, it’s a word now) something you say, or reply with witty banter, you may brag to all your friends for the next 2 years.

#FB means you’re post will also go to your facebook page.  It does not mean something else that I totally thought ..read more

Painting the Trench Run

Autumn
Wednesday
8:23 pm

I came up with an idea to paint the wire frame animation of the x-wing dropping it’s payload into the thermal exhaust port, and when I was framing through the DVD I thought “Hey, the canvas came in a three pack, I might as well make it complete!”

I loved how muted and simple the briefing animation was, especially the last painting signifying the explosion.

So I started out with the triangle of doom.

Added the most ridiculously modern painting of a torpedo I’ve ever attempted.

And threw in a little explosion action to top it off.

It turns out the two paintings I wasn’t planning on doing I like the most.  What do you ..read more

If You’ve Ever Wanted to be A Dread Pirate Roberts

Autumn
Tuesday
7:04 pm

SQUEEEEEE!!!! I’ve always been torn between wanting to be the first female Dread Pirate Roberts, or just making out with the current Wesley version of him…

Somehow I think having a replica of his sword will not help me in my decision.

BUT! The same company, Factory Entertainment is making a Inigo Montoya sword.  Obviously so my husband and I can recreate the best.sword fight.ever.

Though I’m a little worried of what would happen if I fought left handed.  I’m kinda a bumbling bookish sort of warrior.  Don’t let me tell you that story about the cannon and my right big toe, people might make fun of ..read more
