At the turn of the year I set in stone some god to honest New Year’s resolutions. It was more challenge to my willpower to see if I actually could pull off some smaller stuff on my way to bigger stuff.
As a reminder here are the couple of resolutions I set down early this ..read more

Fandom each has its own pieces. For some it is an X-wing. For others it is their replica Sting short sword. Some even like to bask in the glory that is Princess Leia in slave outfit. Now, I can see where these might be guy focused, but even geekgirl can find solace in them.
But for some reason unbeknownst to me geekgirl has some totally different priorities when it comes to geek loves. And most I boggle at. So I come to you for help
Can anyone please explain to me the going gaga by geekgirl over the following?
Aragorn opens some doors
Okay. A couple of doors being pushed open. Do I really ..read more

Hi all. Remember me? In case you don’t my name is Jason and I write for GeekSix.com. Sorry to have been a bit absent as of late, but such is the life of a dad with a sick kid who leaves town to go to a professional conference.
At least you guys can be proud as I presented at said conference on how to embrace technology to enable academic advisors to be able to advise over distances instead of across a desk. Totally did half of the presentation in my hotel bathroom via Skype.
Anywho, prior to all of that going down I was lucky enough to get my hands on a ..read more

You know, I don’t really sit around and think about funny things in the world of comic books. But one day there was a thought that really tickled my brain:
What supes should never propagate?
In truth I am going to blame Conan O’Brien on this one, because I really think it came after his always funny celebrity mash-up photos which gave a humorous view on what their child might look like.
So instead of mixing pictures, what would happen if you mixed powers in a kid. Here is what I came up ..read more

Over the weekend we got into semi-cleaning mode around the house. You know, fold the clothes, washes some dishes, never get anything all the way done. That kind of weekend.
And every once in a while, part of that cleaning is actually migrating my stack of just read comics to my tracking inventory and then into my long boxes. This time around it had been close to a year since I last put them where they should. The rest of the time they sit in piles around the closet or a short box.
For the past couple of years I had been using a desktop app called Comic Collector Live. Before ..read more

From time to time I find myself visiting Cartoon Network from time to catch my fill of superhero cartoons. Most of the time its Batman: The Brave and the Bold but I will also catch an episode of the Super Hero Squad Show or reruns of Teen Titans.
I have always been one to watch a cartoon based on comic books. Mostly that falls into the realm of DC and Marvel as not many others publishers have had their properties turned into cartoons for kids or adults for that matter.
I will admit there is a small part of me that wants to collect every series made but for every good there ..read more

Maybe its just the culture I was raised in that led me to this point. You know the watched too much television and played too many sports culture. Which point is that you ask? The point that for some reason I cannot tear myself away from movies based on sports.
Sure if the movie is just stick out loud horrible I might only watch it once, but I will watch it. So yes I will watch The Legend of Bagger Vance without a thought in the world. Heck Tin Cup ranks up there as one of my favorite movies. And for some reason, any movie Disney has made that is related ..read more

At the end of last week the books and eBooks of the America’s largest publisher Macmillan disappeared from the pages of America’s largest online vendor, Amazon.com.
What would bring on such a happenstance?
Well it all started earlier in the week with the announcement of the iPad. See Steve Jobs promised the world that with his iBookstore the publishers would hold more control over the prices set for the book. Macmillan was one of the publishers who had signed on to provide content for the iPad.
Shortly thereafter Macmillan sat down with Amazon and outlined their view on increasing the cost of eBooks for Amazon’s Kindle, somewhere in the range of $3-5 for ..read more

Steve Jobs wowed the crowd and underwhelmed the general geekery today with the unveiling of Apple’s newest gadget de jour. Within minutes of the announcement of the name…iPad…the world o’ Twitter let out a collective meh and quickly degenerated into a bunch of jokes pertaining to feminine hygiene.
Personally I wasn’t all that impressed. Looking at it, it is a jumbo sized iTouch for the most part with the capability of connecting to AT&T’s 3G network. But it did have some wow factor to it, enough so to make me actually want to plunk down at least $500 bucks for one.
General thoughts?
Outside of the jumbo iTouch solution, I really found myself ..read more

Moving into a new house is a daunting task. Getting through unpacking the boxes, even bigger. But the biggest to date? What in tarnation do we to decorate the walls?
To be honest, in the rentals we had had before now, we really did not put a lot of thought into it. Every once in a while, a framed poster would make it up on the wall. Probably the fanciest we got was a photo collage of the missions in San Antonio. Those were some pretty cool pictures I would admit. Oh wait, we had a couple of pieces of art from Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.
So when we started looking at ..read more
