Those of you (like us) who just can’t leave “Firefly” behind are in for a treat. Two new graphic novel projects are going to hit stores this year.
The biggest of them, story-wise, is a hardcover graphic novel that’s been in the works for three years. “The Shepherd’s Tale” will delve into Book’s mysterious backstory, and will be in stores in November. Although his checkered past was often dangled in front of us during the series and movie’s run, this will be the first time we’ve been presented with a canon telling of how a preacher came to know so much about guns.
A few hints about Book’s past were ..read more

You know, I don’t really sit around and think about funny things in the world of comic books. But one day there was a thought that really tickled my brain:
What supes should never propagate?
In truth I am going to blame Conan O’Brien on this one, because I really think it came after his always funny celebrity mash-up photos which gave a humorous view on what their child might look like.
So instead of mixing pictures, what would happen if you mixed powers in a kid. Here is what I came up ..read more

Over the weekend we got into semi-cleaning mode around the house. You know, fold the clothes, washes some dishes, never get anything all the way done. That kind of weekend.
And every once in a while, part of that cleaning is actually migrating my stack of just read comics to my tracking inventory and then into my long boxes. This time around it had been close to a year since I last put them where they should. The rest of the time they sit in piles around the closet or a short box.
For the past couple of years I had been using a desktop app called Comic Collector Live. Before ..read more

From time to time I find myself visiting Cartoon Network from time to catch my fill of superhero cartoons. Most of the time its Batman: The Brave and the Bold but I will also catch an episode of the Super Hero Squad Show or reruns of Teen Titans.
I have always been one to watch a cartoon based on comic books. Mostly that falls into the realm of DC and Marvel as not many others publishers have had their properties turned into cartoons for kids or adults for that matter.
I will admit there is a small part of me that wants to collect every series made but for every good there ..read more

Brave New World Comics in Santa Clarita, California is putting on a Ge3k Singles Night on Friday, February 12th. I’ve always wondering if these types of events are interesting and fun or just down right painful. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, please check it out. I may end up there ..read more

The past couple of nights I have snuggled up under my down duvet and the darkened corners of my bedroom and tried to catch up on my month old backlog of comics. Most of the time I can get through a couple before succumbing to the Sandman.
Thankfully my stack is not tremendously large as I don’t keep a large hold order anymore. Mostly Avengers, Spider-man, Thor and X-men with usually the big DC global event that is happening. Don’t get me started about Marvel’s decision to basically make The Amazing Spider-man a weekly publication which has degraded the quality of the book.
It has been some time since a storyline in ..read more

My fabulous sisters have out done themselves again when it comes to Christmas time/Nerdy Present time. What to give the offspring that has everything? Why, business cards of course – superhero business cards, and badges, and the bane of every superhero – paperwork.
The best part of the evening was when my youngest nephew – who’s name starts with an “S” protested that his name was spelled wrong on his manila envelope, an envelope that read “Top Secret.” Ah, to laugh at youth.
My sister Apryl has templates of all the paperwork for the Superhero Kit on her blog. It’s a good read (my favorite line item - “communications with sea ..read more

On December 1 we had World AIDS Day to promote awareness about AIDS and how it affects those around the globe. There were various tributes, seminars and education bazaars to try and spread the word. Heck even Twitter offered the #red hashtag which would turn your tweet red if you used it.
Perhaps my favorite moment was when the girls of the office decided to attend one of the said education fairs and deposit an AIDS awareness goody bag on my desk in the middle of the work day. It was complete with condom, lube and a nice shiny AIDS awareness ribbon.
So I got to thinking, what small tribute with the color ..read more
Since three out of six of us have moved recently, I got to thinking about easier, geekier ways to get things done. Friends always help me move… and I consider my friends to be pretty darn super. But what if the super friends and other various superheroes helped the geeksixers move? What would happen then?
The Hulk – awesome at first, just get him good and angry but NO NOT MY EWOK COOKIE JAR! NO HULK SMASH NO!
Superman – Another great one at first, there was a little trouble with my box of kryptonite but just as we compromised on that Louis Lane shows up and the next thing you know ..read more

This has been going around Facebook ‘n Twitter today – an example of what a superhero’s Facebook would be like.
It was written by Chris from Invincible Super-Blog. He finds random forgotten comic images and writes about them. I approve.
The greatest part about it is if you don’t do get any of the jokes there’s a link on each image that leads you to either a picture or a youtube video or a wikipedia article that explains it. Yay!
Check out the other stuff on Comics Alliance too, why have I never been to this website before it’s ..read more
