This is why I do NOT pre-register for DragonCon.

DragonCon, that is. After not sleeping at all and heading to the airport at an unearthly hour, checking a bag that weighed exactly 50 lbs, declining to bump to an 11:30 pm flight, I am now in a giant security line waiting.
On a side note, it was my now completed Clara costume that resulted in not sleeping. Don’t worry, pictures to come. ..read more
Whew! I’ve been doing a lot of vacationing, but I’m back now…I’m good again…wait…my roommate just finished Season 7 of Buffy, so the Buffy quotes slip in all the time and I picked up more that a few things in Hawaii. But I’m back to posting as I get ready for DragonCon. The last two weeks in Hawaii were fan-frakking-tastic. I may have had shave ice everyday, sometimes twice. Therefore I am in need of +5 CHA Community which is geared towards geeks supporting geeks as we endeavor to be healthy, lose weight, and/or gain muscle. The movement was started at GenCon and is gaining members quickly.
Check it out! +5CHA

Every few years, some college friends and I gather somewhere in the country to reminisce and nerd it up with the kind of focused intensity not seen since we lined up for Episode 1.
After we booked our condo in Vegas, we noticed that one of the biggest “Star Trek” conventions was being held a few miles from our place — and while none of us are die-hard “Star Trek” fans, we’d be doing a disservice to our geek roots to not attend.
We didn’t stay long — Vegas in its twinkling, glittering glory was calling, and we had limited time together. But a few impressions and photos from our time at ..read more

The Conundrum: I had to visit family in Nebraska during San Diego Comic Con 2010.
The Solution: Using a patent-pending technology involving space-age polymers, I produced several clones of myself. These clones, virtually indistinguishable from the real me, descended upon Comic-Con. Their mission: Collect data. Collect Schwag. Analyze. Report.
Here are the images they returned:
I arrived at Comic-Con, fresh, full of excitement and ready to begin the weekend.
Ah, the floor of Comic-Con. So many comics to browse. Where should I start?
How about Larry Nemecek’s Next Generation companion?
Here I am, taking a moment to freshen up in the mirror. Yep, everything seems in place, although ..read more

Good news! I’ve figured out a way to get over my despondency over missing out on yet another San Diego Comic-Con: Take me with you.
Despite my repeated carlisthenics (my patented exercise regimen), I’m still unable to contort into your carry-on. But don’t despair, my would-be roomie — I’ve discovered a way we can still see the unique sights and unforgettable smells of thousands of geeks packed into tight spaces in the baking San Diego sun.
I’ve assembled your very own Josh kit!
Print out your Geek6 Josh Facsimile (he likes card stock), mount it on a popsicle stick or ruler, and you’re set to go! Too lazy to print it ..read more

Alright, here’s the deal. I chopped off my hair and now have all sorts of short haired options for cosplay. Yep Josh, I said cosplay. I’m just calling it what it is. You can vote and I’ll costume the winning character. But here are my terms and conditions.
I, GeekSix Christy, will costume the winning character. I reserve the right to choose the time frame for completion of said costume. I also may or may not wear the costume at DragonCon, but will provide photographic evidence of me wearing said costume.
Please click here to view character and costume choices. I will also take write-ins on the ballot.

As any geek girl knows, there’s only so much time you can spend wearing those Wonder Woman boots before the pain sets in on those long convention hour days. Here’s a new solution. Spare Pear. Rollable ballet flats. “SparePear is a revolutionary compact rollable/foldable pair of shoes that measures approximately 3.5 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter (when rolled).” I can’t wait to try these out at Comic-Con.

I quite often defend my geek passion as the equivalent of sports fanatics. I like conventions, comics, movies and such for the same reasons people are fanatical about sports. Not only am I interested in the subject matter but I love the camaraderie of being surrounded by others that share my similar interests. This comparison was most clearly illustrated at DragonCon a few years back. There was a pivotal college football game scheduled in Atlanta the same weekend as DragonCon. While there was some hostility from the geeks when the football fans got a hold of the DragonCon hotel rates and booked out the rooms in record time, ..read more
