As we all know, Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, passed away yesterday at the age of 50. It has been quite some time since a celebrity passing had tugged at my heart strings like this did.
See, growing up my circle of friends listened to Mike. Every new album he put out we go. In third grade I sang “We are the World” with my class. The first album I owned was the Michael Jackson E.T. soundtrack. The first cassette that I could call truly mine was Thriller.
So needless to say, MJ was a big part of me growing up. Sure the last decade has been rough on him and ..read more

This week marks the time when most of our favorite television shows come to a close for their seasons, not to be seen again until the fall (unless you count reruns). But there are are some of the great gems of television sitting around during the summer if you need your original television fix.
So this week, as a little guide to summer television, I give to you, my top five geekrific tv series you should be watching this ..read more

Epic Fantasy. Books that dominate our life as we hang on year after year for the next one to be released. Books that many could take half a life time to actually know the actual story. Books that we will pay way too much money on because we have to buy the first day it is released. Books we love. Epic Fantasy.
So that is this week’s Top 5. I found it hard to embrace the horror side of fantasy as I almost see that as its own genre. So for this list I suppose I really drilled down to the tenants of fantasy in my brain, alternate world, creatures, races ..read more

Reimagination. Its all the rage right now. Even more so after Ronald D Moore reimagined a little show called Battlestar Galactica. But there is a seedy down side to reimagination. For every BSG there are shows like Knight Rider and Bionic Woman that tease the senses only to leave a bad taste in your mouth when sampled.
So given the need for some good solid science fiction television, what exactly should be reimagined? What can be tackled and be good? Even more so, what would Ron do?
Strap in. Here we go. JUMP!
5) Otherworld (1985)
Here we have a series where a world is divided into zones. Each zone has its own culture. ..read more

Quick question. How many of you get your television by actually watching a television? That is what I thought. There is a growing percentage of viewers who turn to the internet to catch up on television, or even watch television for that matter. Its a growing trend that is eventually going to send television the way of the newspaper if they don’t figure something out fast.
Even better than television on the internet is finding new entertainment on the interwebs. No longer is it just streaming television shows or viral videos. There is a whole new crop of shows that are web exclusive. And many of them can rival television with ..read more

DC comics has had sporadic luck when it comes to their characters and putting them on the silver screen. We have seen Batman and Superman over many decades, and treated to Wonder Woman on television in the 1970s. Outside of that, really the only glimpse we have seen of the DC Universe is in the various animated series they have pumped out.
Rumors abound what DC might be putting out next following last month’s Watchmen. Most are the big hitters, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, the next installments for Batman and Superman. But what should DC actually be working on?
So for this week’s top five, I present to you which DC characters ..read more

Going into this top five, I thought I had a cakewalk of a time just slapping down five cartoons and being done. But I have to be honest and say that as I delved into the research to make sure I was covering all my bases, I quickly realized that this was going to take a lot of consideration and the list when complete will have a large contingent of great cartoons from the 1980s on the outside looking in. Even my perceived list of personal faves grows much larger than a simple five. Sacrifices are always hard.
So after last weeks rants on GoBot mistakes and disappointing Transformers, ..read more

We have all had it happen. The heartbreak that follows when your most favoritist show of all time has the rug ripped out from below it and it is stamped with a big red CANCELED! Some deserve it because they are simple dreck, others are visionary masterpieces that the masses just did not understand.
So for this week’s top five I attempt to piss off everyone by not including their show in the top five shows that were canceled way too soon and need to be brought back now. Early apologies to Farscape and Wonderfalls fandom, if it is going to piss you off that much that they are not on ..read more

This week for the Friday Top 5 I present for your scrutiny my top late night television talk shows. With Conan ending last week, Jimmy moving into his place next week and Jay taking a huge jump from late night to primetime next season, I felt it appropriate to take a look at the landscape and what has been.
5) The Arsenio Hall Show (1989-1994) – Things that make you go hmmmmmm. Sure Hall wasn’t over produced, nor was he on one f the big three networks. Matter of fact his show was simply syndicated and ran late night. For me it was on that young FOX network. But The Arsenio ..read more

This week on the Friday Top 5, I tackle the top five comic book movies (and I throw in graphic novel adaptations as well). We have recently seen the highs and the lows of comic book genres with regard to The Dark Knight and The Punisher: War Zone, though The Spirit is pushing hard for the Golden Turd Award. And with Watchmen opening soon, it makes one wonder if it will make a significant impact.
Destined to always be a heated topic of debate, new vs hold, mainstream vs indie, great special effects vs crappy special effects, I proffer the following top 5 for your scrutiny.
5) 300 (2007) – Frank Miller’s ..read more
