That time of chalky delicious conversation hearts is upon us. Hold up! They used to be delicious, but Necco decided to introduce new flavors for 2010. No sooner did they touch my tongue than I had to spit them out. I may be forced to make my own conversation circles from a roll of Necco Wafers. In spite of my conversation heart woes I have compiled a Valentine’s Day gift guide for the geek girl in your ..read more
I know this is far from official, but for fans of Sarah Connor Chronicles there still is hope that there will be storyline closure. There were rumors a while back that there would be a direct to DVD movie to wrap up the second season finale cliffhanger (spoilers – where John Connor leaves his mother in the past, literally, to fight the future IN the future.)
Brian Austin Green was in my friend’s store a few days ago and said it was still a possibility/their working on it. I know, I know, this is no great big announcement. But it makes me happy to know that it’s still ..read more

Ever since videos of Microsoft’s prototype Courier hit the web, we’ve been drooling over the potential. But after Steve Ballmer’s speech at CES last night, the company pulled a reverse Apple, turning hype into disappointment.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Courier, be ready to be wowed. If you’ve seen it before, snuggle yourself in coolness all over again. The device has/had some truly innovative features. Basically, it took two seven-inch screens and bound them together like halves of a book. One screen is a low-power Kindle-like e-ink screen, while the other is a more conventional LCD used for web and multimedia viewing.
The device was useful, compact and incredibly forward ..read more

Despite what Hollywood tells you in sparkly-yet-preposterous disaster flicks, the world’s not likely to end in 2012. In fact, it’s not likely to end anytime soon. But, just in case that makes you feel needlessly cocky, we’ve compiled a list of things that were either supposed to kill you, or might just yet.
The Microwave Oven
Ah, the microwave: heater of Hot Pockets, popper of corn and simmerer of soup. But danger may lurk beneath that chipper, beeping exterior.
After 1971, all microwave ovens were required to conform to standards that all but limited the amount of radiation that could leak, but the anti-microwave crowd says that doesn’t matter: ..read more

I’ve been a little MIA lately as my sister just had a baby via C-section. Apparently when they cut a child out of you, you can’t do many day to day tasks such as picking up your 2-year old, Ty.
In efforts to entertain Ty one afternoon, my Dad handed him his phone so he could watch the cartoon previews under the TV section. He got bored easily as the previews were only about 20 seconds. I switched to youtube videos and loaded one from The Brak Show. I got distracted talking to my parents. All of a sudden Ty just started cracking up. He kept laughing. Apparently, Brak is funny ..read more

Oh, this makes me smile. Kevan Davis and Matt Cordes created this Zombie Infection Simulation back in 2003. You can manipulate the simulation by resetting the zombie count back down to one, change the speed of the simulation, and even invoke a panic mode. Yep, the panic mode is my favorite. Even more so than the fact that the humans make a flight or fight decision.
Zombies are green, move very slowly and change direction randomly and frequently unless they can see something moving in front of them, in which case they start walking towards it. After a while they get bored and wander randomly again.
If a zombie finds a ..read more

Okay, I’m starting to realize I have a trend when it comes to convention reporting. I start out strong and then get busy and stop blogging about it before the convention’s finished. Here’s the reason, or at least my latest theory. I’m SO EXCITED when the convention first starts that I can’t wait to share about it, and then the lack of sleep sets in. Dancing until 6 am, napping, paneling, napping, wandering, oohing and aahing over costumes, dancing and repeat. So here is my long delayed final DragonCon pictorial highlight ..read more
Alas my fair GeekSix readers I must leave you. As you may have noticed I have be a bit sporadic in my writings to you. I chalk it up to real life.
And now I will be out of action for yet another week due to this real life. I will be headed off to a professional national conference in San Antonio, TX.
San Antonio is my hometown, so there will be some fun to be had. As well as eating entirely too much Tex-Mex food and Taco Cabana breakfast tacos.
But on the flip side, my professional life as an academic advisor will have me in four days of sessions. Ahh to ..read more

When I’m out walking my dogs around my apartment complex, I expect to find random trash like McDonald’s cups and Kmart circulars. But I didn’t expect to find a dicarded back to an action figure that was made over 16 years ago. ..read more
