The first trailer for “Battlestar Galactica Online” hit E3 today, and with it came some cinematic footage that captures Zoic Studios’ shaky cam footage and space combat perfectly. It’s exciting, frankly, and any dose of Battlestar Galactica is welcome.
But, in the end, we were curious — the show wasn’t really about thrilling space combat and high doses of strategy. After the conclusion of the second season, it took a turn for the high-minded, and spiraled off in pursuit of legalese, shifting characters, and a significant amount of retconning deus ex machina.

When Discovery blasted through the atmosphere this morning a new record was made. With the three women astronauts on Discovery and the one already at the International Space Station that makes four women in space at one time. For awesome!
This got me thinking. If I was in space, which women would I want with me. Which space women, that is. And then of course, how would they behave on the ISS? My list -

Fandom each has its own pieces. For some it is an X-wing. For others it is their replica Sting short sword. Some even like to bask in the glory that is Princess Leia in slave outfit. Now, I can see where these might be guy focused, but even geekgirl can find solace in them.

That was the sound of “The Plan” DVD hitting, then sliding across my messy piles of paper at work. I looked up in time to see my nameless benefactor glide out of the room silently.

I’ve come to a decision. It wasn’t an easy one, and I’ve gone back and forth, but I’m convicted to follow through with it now.
I’m not watching the newest Battlestar Galactica DVD movie “The Plan.”
As you know, I’m a huge fan of Galactica — I don’t think any sci-fi series has come close to writing that well for drama. Ever. And, yeah, I have huge problems with the final season, and have been pretty vociferous in my complaints, but I still appreciate the work those writers and actors poured into the first two seasons. I’ve never really been into the idea of “Win a dinner with Celebrity You Love X!” Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m guessing that the actors that have to acquiesce to their PR agents’ demands that they eat dinner with “their number one stalker fan” have better things to do than rehash old lines from their last job.
Case in point: UGO’s “Dinner With The Admiral” sweepstakes. Not “Dinner with Edward James Olmos,” but The Admiral. Having to slurp soup while discussing the minute errata from “Scar” is great fun for us nerds, but surely he’d rather be talking about something — anything — else.
