Well spank me with a wet pig and call me Sally. My phone blew up today as news started circulating that Joss Whedon has signed on to direct The Avengers.
Yes. Joss. Whedon. Avengers.
All I have to say is that this is probably a match made in heaven. First reaction was complete fanboy wank-out. Second was “Oh crap, Joss is going to take on ANOTHER movie project.” Well at least according the phone, and to news outlet CNN and entertainment outlet MTV.
Now that the OMG has worked its way out, I am still waiting for the final “Yes this is the case” from Joss himself.
But let’s digress and see why Joss+Avengers+Marvel+Movie=Awesomesauce.

Maybe its just the culture I was raised in that led me to this point. You know the watched too much television and played too many sports culture. Which point is that you ask? The point that for some reason I cannot tear myself away from movies based on sports.
Sure if the movie is just stick out loud horrible I might only watch it once, but I will watch it. So yes I will watch The Legend of Bagger Vance without a thought in the world. Heck Tin Cup ranks up there as one of my favorite movies. And for some reason, any movie Disney has made that is related ..read more

Sad news came from the entertainment yesterday with the news of Patrick Swayze passing away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
GeekGuy will know Swayze from films like Point Break, Road House and Donnie Darko. Females will remember him for completely different movies and his dancer background.
And in what small tribute we can pay to Swayze, I just wanted to give GeekGuys a small crash course in chick flicks. You know, the ones you really do not want to watch, but if you want to start off on the good side of the ladies, you should know a little something about.
Now this is a very different list than those in ..read more

Well I have been waiting with anticipation for something to come out about the upcoming Tron 2 sequel. And now I have it.
The viral site Flynn Lives is now live with some trumped up features and news articles about the disappearance of Kevin Flynn, better known as the protagonist from the original Tron.
Whatever the plot is and whether Flynn is actually around is to be seen. But check it out in all its fakey glory. Click the bouncing Centipede spider at the bottom for a countdown.
But thinking back on Tron and running across The Black Hole this weekend, I have early 1980s family scifi on the brain ..read more
We are starting the weekend early. And with that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is in full effect. Check it, over $100 million in the first day alone. I think that it might be a successful movie. And as such, let the funnies begin. I love this time of the year.
His name is Harry
He’s not that scary
But you betta watch out
‘Cause his patronis he will spout!
Boo-yah!

We all know Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is here. Midnight showings around the land are selling out. Word on the street is this is the best movie thus far.
While I will not be one of those in line for the midnight showing (the son doesn’t really allow for that any more), I hope to be ushered into a theatre sometime soon in order to catch it.
And for this top 5? My top Harry Potter movie moments. Yes the books are better, but movies are the images everyone remembers. And plus we are talking about a new ..read more

I think this may qualify as rock bottom. Just down and out bad. Something I should be lashed over for about two weeks straight. But I have to admit it so I may be ridiculed.
I watched three National Lampoon movies. And not the one’s from the 1970s and 1980s. These were from this decade. And one of them starred…that is right starred….Paris Hilton.
As the wife had a horrendous work week which kept her away from home until late night for most nights I bypassed on the traditional pron to settle in to my instant watch capabilities with Netflix. I bypassed on the critically acclaimed and went to the stupid comedies ..read more

Well that did not take long did it? Variety is reporting the Marvel has already gone ahead and given a green light to a sequel for X-Men Origins: Wolverine and a spinoff featuring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Perhaps it was the movie paying for itself in the first weekend it was open. Too bad Marvel only looked at dollar signs and not that the movie wasn’t worth the toilet paper in the movie theatre restroom. My only question is if Hugh Jackman is going to make Wolverine cry in the next movie, because he was pretty much a sissy boy this past movie. For someone who absolutely pulled off the furry ..read more
Well, regardless if you thought the X-Men Origins: Wolverine was good or bad, if you want more Marvel movies or not, it is going to happen. And that is because the flick took in an estimated $87 million over the weekend.
That number is good for the best opening weekend for any movie this year, and is about half the estimated budget it took to make the movie. So according to the box office, this is a lot more like Iron Man and a lot less like Punisher: War Zone. So here in the next couple of weeks we should start hearing about who exactly is up on deck and who ..read more
So after being able to get out and see an actual movie yesterday, it really made me want to see what was out there coming up that might tickle my fancy. So I checked out a whole bunch of trailers and here are the ones I thought I would invest a couple of bucks in (if possible).
Sure you have your GI Joes, Transformers and Star Treks of the world, but here are some other ones that might not be on your ..read more
