Now that the dust has settled from the news going around that Joss Whedon is set to direct Marvel’s The Avengers, and that it is quite possible he will pulling rewrite duties on the movie and on the upcoming Captain America movie, let the speculation begin.
What speculation is that?
Why who would be the perfect Whedonverse people to cast of course. Now being honest with myself I think it is foregone conclusion that most casting here will be decided by the studio, not Joss himself. Heck I think most of the lead players in this game already have signed on the dotted line.
But in the end, Joss loves using his mates ..read more

Well spank me with a wet pig and call me Sally. My phone blew up today as news started circulating that Joss Whedon has signed on to direct The Avengers.
Yes. Joss. Whedon. Avengers.
All I have to say is that this is probably a match made in heaven. First reaction was complete fanboy wank-out. Second was “Oh crap, Joss is going to take on ANOTHER movie project.” Well at least according the phone, and to news outlet CNN and entertainment outlet MTV.
Now that the OMG has worked its way out, I am still waiting for the final “Yes this is the case” from Joss himself.
But let’s digress and see why Joss+Avengers+Marvel+Movie=Awesomesauce.

Those of you (like us) who just can’t leave “Firefly” behind are in for a treat. Two new graphic novel projects are going to hit stores this year.
The biggest of them, story-wise, is a hardcover graphic novel that’s been in the works for three years. “The Shepherd’s Tale” will delve into Book’s mysterious backstory, and will be in stores in November. Although his checkered past was often dangled in front of us during the series and movie’s run, this will be the first time we’ve been presented with a canon telling of how a preacher came to know so much about guns.
A few hints about Book’s past were ..read more

As you know, I use a lot of technology in running my RPG campaigns. A laptop, intensely organized music playlists, projector-based maps and layered Photoshop files have become as important to me as dice and beer at the game table.
But I’ve never really had much success at remoting people in for gaming. Back in the late 90s, some friends and I decided that we could keep up our college RPG campaign via remote. We spent hours on WebRPG, a tabletop simulator that allowed you to “code” objects and build character sheets.
We spent forever getting the materials ready, but never even got to a full game. It was too ..read more

Here, just let me lob this tweet that came across my feed this morning.
Neil Patrick Harris to Appear on Whedon-Helmed Glee!
And just let me summarize with a bulleted point ..read more

I have a confession. I love Lifetime movies. It’s the cheesy, know what’s going to happen, bad dialogue, mediocre acting style of fluff that I can’t say no to. I’m even more addicted to Christmas Lifetime movies. I just counted 11 nuggets of Christmas cheese on my DVR and already had to answer the question of “What did you do last night?” with “I watched A Boyfriend for Christmas.” Here’s what I’ve learned, there’s a surprising number of geek show alums in Lifetime’s Christmas lineup. So, here’s the spray cheese digest for ..read more

Just got back in tonight (well it was last night before I passed out and finished this morning). From where you ask? Well judging by the glitter in my hair some may claim the strip club down the street from the offices. But that was not it. That glitter came from a sailor hat some sailor chick lent me.
No, tonight was Salt Lake City’s Can’t Stop the Serenity event. Four hours of Whedony fun, Browncoats, raffles, auctions, food, beer and the Big Damn Movie itself, Serenity.
And as the movie made its way to the inevitable end, I sat there listening to my fellow Browncoats around me, cheer, jeer and sob ..read more

Yep, that is right. I think this will bring me to my sixth viewing of Joss Whedon’s continuation of Firefly, Serenity, on the big screen.
Tonight after some very serious dinner, meaning brats and beer, it was decided by those at the table that it was a moral imperative that we must attend the Salt Lake City Can’t Stop the Serenity event. An event that happens on an annual basis to raise awareness for Equality Now, a charity near and dear to Whedon’s heart.
But it also means I get to see all my big damn heroes in action again…when I am not watching them on DVD.
Last year I dressed up ..read more

The Firefly/Serenity universe is one of the best out-of-the-box settings for a role playing game that ever existed: A group of people on the raggedy edge, trying to scrape out a living in a postwar setting that blends the best elements of the Wild West and dystopian future.
As you know, I’m a big fan. (I started www.fireflyrpg.com a few years ago, and have a Mark II version that’s currently being refreshed with new content at test.fireflyrpg.com .) So, when Twitter friend and Geek6 reader @benhamill mentioned that he might — might — be running a Serenity-style game in the near future, I couldn’t pass ..read more

I have kinda gone back and forth on trying to put together something like this. Given that the Whedonverse is so small and compact, with most of it laying in the Buffy/Angel realm, I didn’t know if I could lay down a solid list without it seemingly being confined to one ‘verse or the next.
So I did what any great, intelligent writer would do…ask other people to do it for him. So one hot and blustery August afternoon I made my way around the GeekSix offices, knocking on everyone’s door. And my simple question to each of them, “Who is your headliner out of the Whedonverse B-listers?”
After three days I ..read more
